It’s really common to pay attention to the big, shiny, flashy thing that appears to be taking up all the space and energy.
That’s also how we miss the quieter or less in-our-face details, realities and experiences that are also happening right in front of us.
We can observe and, as leaders, actively make space for both.
Sometimes, it’s all the urgency that’s the big, shiny thing.
And how frequently does the important get usurped by the urgent?
How frequently does all the urgency suck all the air out of the room?
I personally dream of how much more progressed meaningful diversity and equity would be in all of our workplaces, if we took this message to heart as leaders.
It’s never just about the what. It’s always about the how.
