Written by Anodea Judith, Chakras: Awakening and Healing the Energy Body is a good foundational resource.
The idea of chakras is that we each have energy centres in our bodies (think batteries).
One thing I should be clear about is that there is not one authoritative agreement on the number of chakras our bodies have.
How many chakras are there?
Some ancient beliefs say we have five chakras. Other beliefs think we have thousands. Many beliefs, including the current commonly used model, say that we have seven.
Whether there are five or seven or however many really doesn’t need to matter though.
Any system of chakras is simply a great proxy or map of where in our bodies we tend to process and store our life experiences.
Why should I be interested in chakras?
Think for a moment of your cellphone. Do you ever physically look at the battery? Most people likely never can or do look at their phone’s battery.
And yet your phone clearly as a battery, since it can turn on. If you have a problem with your battery, your phone starts to have issues.
As a Reiki Master, I work with clients’ energy centres. Through this experience, and through my own healing over the years, I have seen the importance of helping people to connect with their energy centres.
It’s similar to your cellphone. It’s useful to know how to plug in and keep your energy centres running at their best.
There are lots of chakra books out there, and I’m sure there are other fantastic foundational ones. This particular one I’ve found to be simple to understand, and it includes useful exercises to help you start to connect to yourself.
If you do read this book, or if you’ve already read it, let me know what you think!
Thank you for everything you do, write, and speak. You are comforting to watch and hear. Listening to your words brings me peace.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
