Friday the 13th: How To Create Good Luck?

Although some people are superstitious about bad luck Friday the 13th, I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to focus a little energy on bringing in some good luck.

Some people believe in the power of positive thinking from a psychological perspective (what you focus on is what you continue to notice). Others believe in focusing on what you want to spiritually manifest into your life. And some believe a mix of both!

Bringing some focus to positive intentions

Regardless of which way you tend to lean, here are some a fun little ways to bring in some positive intention into your life through small and immediate actions to uplift your spirit and mindset. And if it brings some good luck to you, all the better!

Idea 1: Do something nice for the good feeling you get

Do something nice for someone (even a stranger!) just for the good feeling it brings you.

It’s okay if that feels transactional! There’s nothing wrong with getting a great feeling after helping someone else. If you do it for altruistic reasons, that’s just fine, too! But it’s completely valid to enjoy the positive feeling of doing something nice for someone else.

Some ideas to get you thinking:

  • Maybe you pay for the coffee order of the person behind you.
  • Or maybe you send an egift certificate to someone who could use it.
  • Perhaps you send a short message to someone to let them know what you appreciate about them.
  • Or maybe you share a content creator’s/author’s/crafter’s/small business owners’ content with someone you think will love it.

Idea 2: Ask for a little sign

Ask the Universe (or your higher self, or your intuition, or your brain) for a small, encouraging sign that is significant to you. Ask for something that will give you a little uplifting moment.

Whether you believe this is a sign from the Universe, or just that you’re asking your super-processor brain to notice positive things, this is definitely a fun and encouraging experience to try!

How to ask for a sign

You can keep it as simple as, “This week, I will notice a sign that is meaningful to me and uplifting.”

Of course, you can align your request to your own beliefs and practices! This is just one simple way of asking for a sign, especially for folks who don’t have an existing spiritual practice.

Idea 3: Take a small action toward something you want

Even if it seems like the smallest, most insignificant action in the world, do one single thing toward something you want. Small choices accumulate with consistency, and we also need to start somewhere. Notice microdecisions you can make immediately that are accessible to you and are in the direction of something you want.

Some ideas on microactions

  • If you’re a writer, maybe you sit down and write 50 words.
  • If you dream of buying a home but it seems completely unattainable, perhaps you set up an automatic transfer on your debit card to set aside a few dollars every time you make a purchase.
  • Or maybe you start a daily list on your phone of one simple thing you’re grateful for today.
  • Perhaps you drink one glass of water, right now.

The idea is to do one microaction for yourself. You don’t need to solve it all right now; just doing that one small action will feel great and send a message to yourself/the Universe that you’re serious about this being something you want.

I hope these ideas help you to bring some focus to the good things that you do want to bring into your life. Remember, good luck is rarely about the huge windfalls and is more about how we make the most of the mundane, small choices in daily life.
