It’s Official. We are Halfway through 2019!

This Tuesday, July 2nd, marks the halfway point through 2019. That makes it the perfect time to find a comfy spot on a dock, balcony, rooftop terrace or couch and check in on how the year is going.

After all, you still have the second half of the year to do the things that are most important to you.

Half-Year Dockside (or livingroom-side) Check-in

1. Prepare

  • Grab your favourite beverage, a journal and pen, and a coin. Any coin will do.
  • Once you’re curled up in the loungey spot of your choice, take a moment to notice how you physically feel. Just breathe and notice.

2. Prime

  • In your journal, draw a line down the middle of a page.
  • Look at the coin closely. Take in the details. Both sides, the edge.
  • As you continue to look at the coin, notice which side feels like the first half of your year.
  • Start a timer for 1 minute. On one half of your page, immediately start writing non-stop (free writing) until the timer goes. Don’t think, just write, and don’t stop writing for even a moment until the timer goes. Just write whatever comes into your head, even if it doesn’t seem related. 
  • Now underline three key words that jump out to you in what you wrote.
  • Pick up the coin again and look at the other side, noticing how this side reminds you of the second half of the year. 
  • Immediately start your timer for 1 minute and in the other half of the page, free write again non-stop. Just write whatever is in your head, doesn’t matter what it is.
  • Again, underline the three words that jump out to you.
  • On a new page, write out the six key words. Which is the one BEST word that makes you feel great? Circle that one.

3. Imagine

  • Now think about something that you really want in 2019.
  • Just take a moment, and then write a one-page story in your journal about what your life would look like once you have that. Write the story as if it’s already happened, in present tense. Beautiful.
  • And now, boil down your story to a single, simple, positive intention to set the tone for your second half of 2019.

Tip: Make sure it’s positive only (avoid “I won’t do this” or “no more that” or “I’ll quit/stop something”. What WILL you do?). 

4. Marinate

  • Once you’ve written it in your journal, take a few moments to close your eyes, breathe, and imagine yourself going about your day to day life, living that story you wrote.
  • Out loud, say to yourself your short, positive intention three times.

Conclusion

As you enjoy the rest of your day and sail into the second half of 2019, come back to your intention every now and then for a check-in.
